What GLP-1 Medications Cannot Fix

GLP-1 medications may quiet appetite and food noise, but nutrition still matters for protecting muscle, strength, bone health and long-term wellbeing.

Do you not trust yourself anymore?

Does one chocolate become the whole bag?

Does one big night out feel like all your progress is ruined, so you might as well not try anymore?

Do you keep trying plans that promise results but do not deliver them? Or perhaps you see a little progress, but then it stalls?

Foods promise health on the label, but they do not work for your appetite, your energy or your biology. The ingredients behind the label are not delivering what the marketing promised.

You are not broken.

You are living in a very confusing food environment and food supply.

Nutrition advice is conflicting. Marketing is pervasive. Food products are deliberately tested and designed to influence your choices and your neurobiology.

You are only trying to make the best choices you know how to make.

So, can you do me a favour?

Stop blaming yourself.

Medication May Quiet the Noise

For some people, GLP-1 medication can reduce appetite and quieten food noise.

I have lived through that noise. I know how deafening it can be.

Honestly, if these medications had been widely available six or seven years ago, I probably would have tried them too.

The relief can be significant.

GLP-1 medication should be medically managed, but quietening the noise is only part of the process.

Weight Loss Is Not Just a Number

The scales can only tell you how much total weight has been lost.

Yes, some of that weight may be fat. However, some may also be muscle and bone, particularly when nutrition is not carefully managed alongside medication.

This is why having the right support around you matters.

Muscle and strength matter, especially as you age, because it may become increasingly difficult to regain them once they have been lost.

The goal is improved health.

It is not simply a smaller number on the scales.

A Smaller Appetite Means Fewer Opportunities to Eat Well

When you are using medication and your appetite is smaller, you have fewer opportunities to get adequate nutrition into your day.

That makes the quality of what you eat even more important.

Protein matters.

Nutrition quality matters.

Strength and movement matter.

Medication side effects also matter. They may affect what you are willing to eat, what you can tolerate and what you feel able to stomach.

A reduced appetite does not automatically mean your nutritional needs are being met.

Use the quieter period to build nutrition that genuinely supports you.
